So far we have learnt how the "engine" of the Thai script works - that is, it is based on the Indic abuguida system. Rather than diving straight into learning the consonants and their names like other Thai writing courses do, in this module we put the consonants on hold for a moment. Here we learn to master the framework in which the consonants are held, which is the vowel frame system. It is in understanding the 'system' that will ensure that your spoken and written fluency builds up to the level you need in the future as all the tones, throat positions and the way your body produces the Thai language are fundamental to this system. You do not need to know the names of each of the consonants for this module, nor do you need to know the shapes of all of the consonants. In the activities, you will have the option to hover over the syllables and reveal the consonants' IPA phonetic letters.
